I created and led a comprehensive product management training program for 5-6 associate product managers, building all the curriculum from scratch. Two participants got promoted to better roles, and two moved to stronger PM positions at other companies. People came in without PM experience and left with a real skillset, and they went on to prove it.

The problem

We created a new Associate Product Manager position because we wanted to grow talent from within. But there was no training program to onboard them or teach them the fundamentals. APMs were thrown into the deep end without a real pathway to learn.

The approach

I built a 6-week training program, one 1-hour hands-on class per week with a cohort of about 4 APMs. Each session combined lectures, hands-on projects, and mentorship, covering the core PM skills: writing user stories, running research, making decisions, drawing user flows, breaking work into epics, and writing KPIs. People didn't just listen, they practiced immediately.

The outcome

Two of the APMs got promoted into better roles at the company. Two moved to stronger PM positions at other companies. Beyond the numbers, they actually became better at their jobs, they knew how to think like PMs instead of guessing. The company benefited from having trained product managers instead of learning-on-the-job ones. And some of them started mentoring others.
